Dermal Fillers in New Jersey

(Juvederm Lip Injections)

Let’s Talk Fillers:

Dermal fillers, including Juvederm, Voluma, Vollure, and Volbella, among others, are FDA approved biomaterials that add subtle volume to the face.

They can be used to fill in deep wrinkles in the nasolabial folds and marionette lines (lines around the nose and mouth). Fillers can also be used to augment the fullness of the lips and improve projection of cheekbones.

 Common Questions:

  1. WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR Filler?

Like Botox, this procedure is great for women and men who are looking to soften the wrinkles of the face and prevent and reverse signs of aging.

However, Juvederm filler does not paralyze the muscle. Instead, the filler is made of hylauronic acid that restores or adds volume and contours the face to achieve a natural and youthful appearance.

  2. HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?

Dr. Parcells understands your time is valuable.

The first time you try a nonsurgical treatment in our office, plan to spend 30 minutes in the office to get an in-depth facial analysis, pre-procedural photographs and recommendations regarding your treatment.

For example, Dr. Parcells will look at the area you are interested in improving, such as your lips and discuss goals to achieving fuller lips, such as lip injections.

Subsequent visits can be as quick as 15 minutes to accommodate your lunch break or other obligations.

  3. WHERE IS THE FILLER INJECTED?

Fillers can be injected into different areas of the face, and different types of filler are recommended for specific areas.

These products have been tested in multiple research studies to confirm their safety and efficacy.

Juvederm Volbella has an injectable gel thickness comparable to whipped cream, and is frequently injected into the lips

Juvederm Vollure has a thickness comparable to maple syrup, and is frequently injected into nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Juvederm Voluma has a thickness comparable to honey, and is frequently injected onto the cheek bones

  4. IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL?

Filler injections may be mildly uncomfortable, and for patients who are apprehensive we recommend coming a few minutes early to have some local numbing cream applied to the area.

The injectable also has a local numbing agent that is introduced along with the filler, so patients are comfortable post-procedure.

  5. ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

There should be very limited side-effects to this treatment when administered by a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon (such as Dr. Parcells) who has extensive experience administering Juvederm Fillers.

  6. ARE THERE ANY POST-PROCEDURE RESTRICTIONS?

Expect swelling to the affected area for a day or two after the procedure. Depending on your medical history Dr. Parcells may make additional recommendations.

  7. HOW LONG SHOULD I EXPECT RESULTS TO LAST?

Most hyaluronic-acid based fillers, such as Juvederm, last between 6 months and a year. In some patients, particularly in those who have received filler in the past, results can last even longer.

  8. My face looks old, but i’m not sure if I need botox or juvederm fillers??

Please take a look at our Botox page to understand how this medication works.

Additionally, we recommend you come in for a consultation to meet Dr. Parcells and understand what improvements will work best for you.

  9. Do you perform permanent facial augmentation with implants (cheek area, lip)?

At this time there are more sophisticated ways of achieving a youthful appearance without surgically inserting a foreign body such as a cheek or lip implant.

For patients who want a permanent enhancement (in the lips, for example) Dr. Parcells may recommend fat injections as a minor surgical procedure. This requires fat to be liposuctioned from another area of the face or body and injected into the lips for permanent lip augmentation.Because fat is a native substance in the body, it is unlikely to be rejected or cause an infection, which is more common with a foreign body (implant).

  10. How much do JUVEDERM FILLERS cost?

Each patient is different and your needs are unique.

The cost of the treatment (lip fillers, for example) will depend on your facial anatomy and the amount of filler needed to improve your aesthetic features. This will be determined between you and Dr. Parcells during your one-on-one consultation.

After reviewing your medical history and discussing your desired goals, Dr. Parcells will perform a physical exam to evaluate your skin tone, laxity, facial expression. She will then provide her expert advice and discuss your options to achieve your desired outcome.

She will also address all risks and benefits of the procedures you are interested in.

Dr. Parcells is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
